Have you set yourself a goal recently?

Is it a new goal or one that you have attempted before?  Take a look at this statement:-

If you want something...

So you need to look at your goal and make sure that the actions you have planned are the right ones to get the result – and if you haven’t had the result before then the actions need to be ones you haven’t tried before.   If they aren’t then change them – one definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again while expecting different results! Once you have determined what action you need to take then take a look at your beliefs and make sure they are not holding you back. If you question your beliefs then you will begin to find evidence to support new beliefs about what you can accomplish and you will then start to use your skills to make your new beliefs your reality.

If we use the example of someone setting a goal to run a half marathon, there may be a stage at the beginning where they are very uncertain about their ability to complete this and they question whether or not this is the right goal. However, if they keep this goal and make an action plan about how they can build up their stamina and their distance, they will begin to achieve smaller interim goals – a 2km run, a 5km walk/run, their first 10km run – and each milestone will provide them with the self belief and confidence that the next goal can then be reached and hence, by the end of the training programme, they have become a 21km runner – their dream has become their reality.

So don’t tell yourself that you can’t. Look for the signs that you can achieve,  and recognise that each small achievement is a step towards your ultimate goal. Give yourself a pat on the back for all the positive action you have taken so far and continue looking forward.  The results you get may not be what you expected or what you want but NEVER GIVE UP.  When Thomas Edison was trying to invent the lightbulb he said ‘I have not failed.  I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work’.  If he had dropped at the first hurdle we might all still be sitting in the dark!  If something goes wrong learn from it, and move on.  You are one step closer to success at that point so make a new action plan and get going.  Stay motivated and positive – it will be your choice to feel that way, choosing to feel down and negative is also an option  but it won’t get you anywhere near your goal.
